Rodney Carswell: New Lithographs

We are pleased to announce the release of two new lithographs by Rodney Carswell: Bloob(?) and Dyad-O.

Bloob(?)Dyad-O

Rodney describes his recent work as follows:

“My work has often been described as belonging to a category of ‘reductive, geometric abstraction’. In the last decade however, I have been intentionally, slowly reshaping what constitutes my working model to incorporate more surprise and imaginative play. While my work remains what some would call ‘abstract’, image and representation have become more apparent. My lithographs produced with Shark’s Ink are products of this drift.”

Bloob(?) and Dyad-O are each editions of 20, 30¼ x 30¼ and cost $2400 plus packing and shipping.

New Evan Colbert Print

We are pleased to announce the release of a new print by Evan Colbert, “Interstellar Overdrive”.

“Born of graphic abstraction, color, and form; patterns and circles come together to form a scene. What is happening is not clear. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Perhaps the imagery is drawn from the near future or an alternate universe, like in a Phillip K. Dick novel where clunky analogue equipment exists concurrently with state-of-the-art technology. Or as in the film “2001,” when your onboard computer system decides you are no longer a necessary part of the equation. Low tech versus High tech. Macro versus Micro.” -Evan Colbert

“Interstellar Overdrive” is a color lithograph, 21¼ x 30″, edition of 20. The publication price is $1,200 plus packing and shipping.

Claire Sherman: New Lithographs

Claire Sherman is a painter who made her first lithographs at Shark’s in the summer of 2018, Underbrush and Tree and Water.
She returned in 2019 to make two new lithographs, Leaves and Vines and Waterfall.

Leaves and VinesWaterfallSherman’s paintings and these prints propel the viewer into a claustrophobic and unstable world through a perspective that shimmies between representation and abstraction. Her works reference idealistic visions of the sublime but do not seek to portray a specific view or experience. She addresses the ubiquity of imagery we associate with the genre of landscape, nullifying a sense of particularity.

Don Ed Hardy: Three New Lithographs

“My recent collaboration with Bud Shark resulted in three images based on classic sailing ships, as seen in traditional American tattoo design. Along with sails, they’re rigged out with trellis forms. Both themes have fascinated me since childhood. The house I grew up in was surrounded by trellises. Our small beachfront town was part of Newport Harbor in Southern California, where I saw many varieties of sailing craft. At ten, when I became transfixed by traditional American tattooing, clipper ships were a strong design component that I drew repeatedly. Later, when I became a professional tattooer, I was able to frequently execute these subjects, a mainstay of Western tattoo tradition.” – Don Ed Hardy.

“A Thorny Crossing”, “A Burial at Sea” and “Homeward Bound” are each editions of 20, on Black Yatsuo paper and cost $1200 plus packing and shipping.

New Enrique Chagoya Print

We are pleased to announce the release of a new print by Enrique Chagoya, “Detention at the Border of Language”.

“In this work I defang the stereotypes of Native Americans depicted as primitive savages in the painting by Wimar. The mask and the Mayan head team up with a third character to form a fictitious, original, trans-continental Border Patrol. This work is a humorous reminder that all nations in the Americas were created by undocumented immigrants from Europe. Today, some politicians call refugees from Central America and other countries “illegal aliens” but for me they are no different from the Pilgrims or Daniel Boone’s daughter. Xenophobia goes against the spirit of this great country I immigrated to and adopted as my home when I became an American citizen.”

“Detention at the Border of Language” is a color lithograph, edition of 30. The publication price is $2,600 plus packing and shipping.

NEW BARBARA TAKENAGA LITHOGRAPH

Barbara Takenaga describes her new lithograph “Small Springs (backsplash)”:

I like the sense of that in-between time of blue light in this print – between daylight and night in a stylized landscape of water and island. Iridescent, faintly pink geysers can be read alternately as small springs, white flames, flowering plants or the backsplash of something falling into ripples of water.

“Small Springs (backsplash)” has been printed in an edition of 25, plus proofs, on white Rives BFK 24 x 19½”.  Printed in thirteen colors from six plates plus hand coloring and pearlescent powder. The publication price is $2,400.

New Yvonne Jacquette lithograph

We are very pleased to announce the publication of Yvonne Jacquette’s new lithograph “The River at Belfast, Maine”. In this colorful print Jacquette presents a view of the Passagassawakeag River flowing into Belfast Bay. She creates a composite view of boats in the bay, cars, light posts, wind patterns and in the background, cottages emerge from a lush deep-green landscape.

“The River at Belfast, Maine” is a sixteen color lithograph printed from fourteen plates made from mylars hand drawn by the artist. The edition of 30, plus proofs, was printed on white Rives BFK paper 23 x 32″.  The publication price is $3,000 plus packing and shipping.

New prints by Ana Maria Hernando

“I have been painting enormous flowers, flowers that cannot be contained by the paper. “Somos Nube” (We are Cloud) and “Somos Aire” (We are Air), my newest prints, profess a grand beauty I am seeing everywhere.

The persistent feminine force cannot be denied any longer. Why are we so afraid of the presence of the feminine? It is unstoppable. Flowers, in their quiet but urgent power, are our most trustworthy prophets”.

Evan Colbert: New Lithographs

We are very pleased to announce the publication of two new Evan Colbert lithographs, “Astronomy Dominé” and “Obscured by Clouds”.

"Astronomy Dominé"
Colbert talks about his recent work:
In late 2017 I began a series of paintings based on the concept of Imaginary Maps. Using found stencils, spray paint, and other materials, I began to build compositions out of layers of dots, shapes, lines, and grids in a process much like sketching. This work was inspired by the puzzle-like arrays that occur at the intersections of town and country where the imperfect grids and structures of civilization give way to the abstract geometric patterns as viewed from above.
"Obscured by Clouds"
The “Astronomy Dominé” and “Obscured by Clouds” prints are a distillation of some of the earlier paintings and prints, cropped, enlarged in scale, and assembled from the same collection of stencils, objects, and patterns. The interplay of shapes, textures and colors lead the eye around the prints providing abundant opportunity for visual discovery.

Astronomy Dominé is an eight color lithograph printed from six plates on white Rives BFK paper 22¼ x 30″. Obscured by Clouds is a nine color lithograph from five plates on white Rives BFK paper 22¼ x 30″. Both prints have been printed in editions of 20, plus proofs and are each $1,200 plus packing and shipping.

Deluvium

We are pleased to announce a new lithograph by Miho Morinoue.

Deluvium or deluge is a large-scale lithograph depicting a scene where myth and reality co-exist and co-mingle in the moments preceding a great cleanse. Both dark and whimsical, the narrative explores the relationship between human beliefs and civilization as they relate to the enveloping force of nature that sustains or destroys them.
