“War Eagle”

In War Eagle, John Buck continues to explore what Eleanor Heartney, writing in John Buck Iconography, has described as “….one of his overriding concerns – namely, the conflict between our pastoral, utopian ideals and the sad reality of conflict, urbanization, power, militarism.” In this print, Buck focuses on conflicts and cultural upheaval in the Middle East.

This large woodcut, his first horizontal, has been printed in an edition of 15, plus proofs, from three woodblocks with hand coloring, on white Thai mulberry paper, 37 x 73 inches.
