“Tulip Tarantella” is a voluptuously colored dance of tulips on a gold leaf background. Working from a bouquet of fresh tulips Kushner started this print with an expressive black line drawing. He then added the rich gradated reds that were printed over fluid lithographic washes printed in white. The white ink glows through the reds and magentas to create subtle textures that weave through the print’s background. Two types of 22k gold leaf applied to the surface of the print after printing add a brilliant luster that illuminates the image. “Tulip Tarantella” has been printed in an edition of 30, plus proofs, on white Rives BFK Waterleaf paper 33 x 33″.
